We Were Here...The Chops... Lumpzucker... xoteq

Since the early ‘90s the house at 136 Johnston St, where Nighthawks now stands, was a creative hotspot of many an artist and musician... renting it off of Harry the Russian, who incidentally was in the battle of Leningrad. Across the road at The Bendigo Hotel we ran the SOD Club, where new bands could try out their wares without fear or favour, and if you ran out of money there was always ‘free beer for nudes’. When the pub closed for the evening everyone migrated back across to 136 for further cultural activities.
Get along to the SOD Club reunion gig this Wednesday 19th October, featuring 3 bands of former residents of the 136 allumni: Justin Butler who is -xoteq-, Tim Lines in The Chops (with special guest vocals from Christine Thirkell) and Dan Persse in Lumpzucker.
Wig out to a night of deconstructed musical architecture, telepathic sonic mind-groove explorations and dark rock from the murky depths of the antipodean underground.
Longterm local legends on the Adelaide scene Lumpzucker have been delivering powerful performances since 1989. Dark, pounding rhythms provided by founders and eternal Lumpys Ross (drums) and Dave (bass) have been supplemented by a barrage psychotic sounds from guitars, synthesier, sax, French horn and more, as lyrics comment on laundry, life, alien invasion and lost leather jackets. The Chops is a 6 piece instrumental band from the hills of Melbourne, serving up a heady mix of rare groove, krautrock and home-brew inspired jams. Emerging from Daylesford is xoteq, who will be manipulating his own manipulations, rebuilding his own musical architecture in real time
