CARLSON CHRONICLE at Nighthawks!
It’s no secret that The Peoples Poet, Our Carlson doesn’t mind a bit of pool, a few beers and a smoke, so to celebrate Nighthawks new outdoor, undercover, smoking area pool table he has put together a lineup of his favourite electronically backed, vocally fronted acts to celebrate.
Headlining we have the John Cooper Clarke of Keilor Park, Our Carlson. Ranting and raving over everything from Jungle and Breaks to Donk and Hyperpop on everything from class war to Disability to astrology and getting pegged. He’s disabled, pissed off, searching for a revolution and telling everyone about it.
“Captain Beep-boop is a transistor-based trans sister who plays electronic punk songs on a modified Telstra “Bluephone” payphone.”
Yeah so the captain is from another planet, dialling up songs from her teledex into an old blue phone you might find at the pub or footy club up until 10 years ago. Once dialled in she controls the track with the keypad while singing down the line about Ian touring and walking out of a gender neutral bathroom in the inner north of Melbourne a different gender than she walked in as. Mind blowing concept with the tracks to match. TISM fans will be in attendance.
Euniq is a proud Sistergirl who has been producing genre bending music for the last 3 years.
She sums it up as "Simple music complex for people." It’s a blunt instrument to destroy capitalism. For fans of politically charged lyrics over simple beats and synth lines then it’s time to Join the Euniq movement or perish

Two-piece anti-cappo proto-punk zig-zag ka-blam. Short answer; Oil Rig.
Long answer if you must, a minimalist punk duo writing grubby little bass riffs and tub-thumping tub thumping. Forming at a midweek show in barter town, Oil Rig is a trashy love letter to any band that’s got something to say; a trashy, drunken scribbling that we hope comes off earnest.
Songs about radicals, capital and sabbaticals (two truths and a lie). We tried to be straight edge but we both work hospo. Tried being Devo but we don’t get synths.
Oil Rig: the best ya gonna get!

Melbourne based 4 piece, spawned from the early punk scene, 1987-1991. In 2023, two original members, Rick Thomas (guitars, vocals) and Steve Munyard (drums) paired up with Jim Richter (guitars) and Andrew Hepburn (bass) to create the new Borderland. A sonic riff driven soundscape with pounding bottom end rhythms. paired with dark melodic vocals
Combining frenetic screaming with soaring guitars and electronic beats.
Electronic + Dread + Metal. A unique take on heavy music.
Violet Dread is Paul Anstey and Alex Grunwald, two old friends out of Melbourne, Australia.
MUNROE are excited to be joined by emerging indie rock act, The Cheaks (NSW) making their Naarm debut; and Melbourne-based gritty, indie-folk artist Emma Yue.
On the back of recording their upcoming EP, Munroe will be bringing their indie folk sound to the stage. With a slew of releases on the horizon Munroe will offer their usual gut-wrenching lyricism paired with, what may be described as mid-set 'jokes'.
Hailing from the steel city of Newcastle, The Cheaks bring a fresh energy to the indie rock scene, blending classic influences with a contemporary edge that captivates audiences from the first note. Following the success of their debut EP Sirens, The Cheaks are set to unleash their hard-hitting new single, Wildfire - the first taste of their highly anticipated upcoming EP. To mark the occasion, they'll be hitting the road, bringing their electrifying live show to Melbourne.
A self-confessed purveyor of the phrase 'do it for the plot', Emma Yue embodies the rollercoaster ups and downs of your early 20s with genre blending indie, folk and rock sounds. While she shares her psycho-drama-queen antics, she also shares deeply personal and confessional writing without shying away from vulnerability.
Fingers crossed it should be a pretty special evening xx
Felix Worner & his band, with Isobel Caldwell & Killer Instinct live at Nighthawks Bar on Sunday 1 June. Doors at 5pm, Music from 5:15pm
Felix Worner is an alt-country singer-songwriter from Tāmaki Makaurau, now living in Naarm. Worner’s songs evoke a strange romantic sadness, underscored by his baritone voice and nostalgia-laden melodies that linger like a cheap perfume. The result is a solemn, poignant, but woodsy sound.
In June, Felix Worner will play Nighthawks for his first band headline show of the year. Joining him will be Isobel Caldwell; and Killer Instinct.
Leipzig via Lugano’s weirdo punk heroes Autobahns will be returning to Australia this June! After their first tour in January 2024, they’re back this time hitting both coasts, alongside a smokin’ roster of local and interstate supports. Their “First LP” was a beloved release from renowned Victorian label Legless Records and now they hit us with a split with Melbourne kings Elvis 2. Hope you freakos are ready.
“If you were waiting for the typical and overused egg-punk stuff, this is not your album, cause although Giulliano always seemed to us the top-boy of the class from the old continent, with this "First LP" he has surpassed any of our expectations with a sound where weirdness, the wild synth-punk-garage reminiscent of pioneer bands like Ausmuteants and even a touch of Skate-punk are threaded with unusual class over a layer of juicy and freaky LoFi that makes it simply irresistible... A killer one!”
- Tremendo Garaje
“You may not know Giuliano Iannarella, the Germany and Switzerland-based punk rocker, but the debut Autobahns album First LP! makes a strong case that he deserves a seat alongside fellow rippers-to-watch Gee Tee, Alien Nosejob, and Sick Thoughts. It’s not easy to designate exactly where this lives in the realms of egg, chain, and skate punk—it’s a journey across all those vibes. There’s a track here called “Ciapa Male,” and it’s just choppy and relentless rock’n’roll that could burn for a full hour without getting old. It’s the kind of debut with so much power, so many major songs, and so many different vibes packed into one album, it feels like a star turn for Iannarella. Synths attempt to simmer things down near the end, but it’s useless: First LP! burns hot.”
- Evan Minsker, see-saw.fun
Naarm based FUTURE SURF DANCE PUNK band DOLE MANCHILD returns from a South Australia tour at the end of a six month hiatus with a jacked new single: MUSCULAR! Dole Manchild : "Rising punk powerhouse" Dole Manchild are an Argentine fronted, eclectic, eccentric, and explosively energetic seven-piece supergroup delivering genre-fusing art-punk garage rock.
Better than Sex: Based in Melbourne Australia, Better Than Sex is a band which tries to capture the mutual feeling of existential dread and fear of eternal damnation which haunts the collective unconscious of all 21st century sicko's.
Salvador Peralta: Most Known for Apple Bottom Jeans covers. most enthusiastic about anything else..
Join Meanjin alt-rock duo Sacred Hearts as they headline the launch of their debut EP 'Siren Songs'. The EP is a celebration of girlhood- reflecting on loss, sensuality and honouring feminine rage, it delves into the complexities and intensity of the feminine experience. Performing the EP in full alongside fan favourites from earlier releases, June and Josie bring their signature blend of post-punk, coldwave, and shoegaze to life with their enigmatic, high-energy live show. Don’t miss this electrifying live show from one of the most exciting voices in Australia's alt-rock scene.
They are joined by local acts Full Fleshed and Kayo.
Louisville, Kentucky avant-folk songwriter Ryan Davis makes his first visit to Australia, headlining Nighthawks with support from Sweet Whirl in solo mode.
After more than 15 years of releasing music in outfits State Champion, Tropical Trash and others, Dancing on the Edge is the first album produced under Kentucky-based songwriter Ryan Davis’ name.
Ryan Davis continues in the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, Terry Allen, Souled American and David Berman’s Silver Jews, but reimagines the dated archetype of the modern day indie troubadour. A seven-song, 53-minute basement folk opus, Dancing On the Edge ranges from bare-boned, achingly crooned avant-folk tales to jovial, collaborative excursions into long-form experimental country-tinged rock. The sprawling double album was self-released at the end of 2023 and recently reissued by UK label Tough Love.
Dancing on the Edge is a dense collection of Americana-Noir that navigates a familiar yet alternate reality, one of enchanted mundanity and uniquely Mid-Southern introspection. Simultaneously antisocial and outwardly inviting, free of cynicism yet slightly stepped in paranoia, Dancing on the Edge is as delicately choreographed and emotionally connective as it is, at times, absurd.
Ryan Davis is currently touring the US with Bill Callahan, just finished a tour supporting MJ Lenderman and did a co-headline European tour in 2024 with Australia’s own Ned Collette.
“This is the sound of someone bearing a torch.” - Bill Callahan
“One of the finest beard-rock slabs of the century.” - Byron Coley

Major Bummer are a Melbourne based guitar-focused supergroup of bedroom geniuses featuring members of many bands that toured the planet and became so beloved that when they broke up the world Eternal Sunshined themselves, which is why it might feel like you have never heard of any of them.

To promote the release of 2nd single Gummy Bears, Major Bummer toured the Western U.S. in their northern fall.
When a certain Major Bummer's mother-in-law asked for a little groovy guidance about medicinal candies she'd heard about in her Mahjong game, The Bummers gave pause...
As something of a team of experts in the edible arts and about to send her a stream of hyperlinks with peer reviewed clinical trials and testimony from California Sober housewives, we then thought it'd be way more fun to write her a cautionary song instead...

Denim Owl is the long term music project of music maker and night owl Janita Foley who is known for dispensing delicate, pensive, experimental dream pop. The project has recently morphed into five-piece form, and the Owl band are ready to flaunt their newly minted four-years-in-the-making album. Janita and musical associates Joe Foley, Irit Rozenfeld, Jill Farrar, and Stephanie Hooke, aim to play their handmade tunes scuffed up by unapologetically long instrumental-wig-outs, and will make no exception as they celebrate the release of Fall Apart, a 5-minute dalliance in meandering pop, which lands with a music video shot by Berlin based filmmaker Alex Badham.
Special guests on the night are:
CHEESES use lo-fi electro sounds, guitar and bass combined with quirky song writing and en pointe vocal harmonies. Cheeses is the latest from long term musical collaborators Jane McCracken and Eva Sommerfeld who released several classic badass-twee-heartbreak albums as The Foots.

Coma Toast are a Kiwi-flavoured mystery boy band made up of two lovely gentlemen whose sound remains bathed in mystique. You'll find out what they do if you're willing to stand the suspense.
Hailing from the wintry streets of Ballarat, VIC, Cassells crafts a sound rooted in the textures of alt-rock and indie-folk. His distinctive baritone voice and poetic lyricism invite listeners into a world of poignant reflection, where weighty moral themes are often softened by glimmers of dry humor and light-hearted charm.

Get ready Melbourne! Newgate Crowd, 'All For Nothing' launch hits Nighthawks in Collingwood Friday 9th May! Joining us is All Regards & TILE
“Miss You, Everyday” delves into the heartbreak of wanting the best for someone who refuses to recognise their own potential.
The song tells the story of one person’s struggle to help another break free from self-doubt, stagnation, and negativity—despite their efforts being met with indifference or rejection. The poignant refrain, “I miss you, every day” captures the deep sense of loss, not just for who they once were, but for the person they could have become.

Bio for Luke Morrison:
The music of Luke Morrison is bittersweet, with shows typically comprising of dissonant ballads and instrumental arrangements both charming and challenging. Often striking a melancholic chord, his work is influenced by the sounds of Roy Orbison, Elliot smith, and Arthur Russell as well as the tension, unpredictability, and uncertainty of classical music. The first single from his upcoming record ‘Polka Dots’ is titled ‘Mermaid Song’ and is set to come out along his Eastern States tour during April 2025, with ‘Melodie for Sara’ coming not long after. Since then, writing songs has always been what she wanted to do.
Hello! Sophisticated Dingo here. Keen to release a new song called Mess Me Around. Keen to play a show for it too. Going to do something special and play a stripped back set because Jimmy broke his ankle. Poor Jimmy.
Looking forward to playing some songs a little softer in the cozy surrounds of the Nighthawks band room. Great bar. Bad Yoke on support too for their first ever show so that will be great. Come through. Here are some more conventional musings on the new song:
Mess Me Around is about being let down by those you rely on. An anthemic cry of pain when your partner won’t hold up their end of the bargain. Hurt compounds because so much good in your relationship led you to depend on them. Sadly they don’t care enough to make sure you both achieve what you are working towards. The song appeals to inspire action but also concedes that resistance to a doomed partnership may be futile. “I know who you are” and you may never change.
Sophisticated Dingo is a Garage Rock duo from Melbourne, Australia. Friends since adolescence Jimmy and Lew write songs that are a punch in the face you can relate to.
Relentless touring with JET, Polish Club, The Terrys, Beddy Rays, Press Club and Dear Seattle, sees the road-worn Sophisticated Dingo ready to share their new single ‘Mess Me Around’. The anthemic cry of pain begs for support from an absent partner when achieving a dream lies in jeopardy.
The song features on an EP to be released in 2025. Following much revered singles including Radio On, Morning View and Day In The Life.
A night to celebrate the 2nd single release from Melbourne band Sugargum. with support from two amazing bands, Harry & The Ettes, Tractor Beams

Flower Extract return to Wurundjeri country for a very special, intimate matinee at Nighthawks in Collingwood. They will be joined by kiwi exports Pretty Stooked for two hours of Saturday afternoon madness. Tickets are extremely limited and retail at $10-12 presale. Get. In. Quick.
Hailing from the east coast of lutruwita/Tassie, Flower Extract are a distinctly vandemonian indie-psych-rock quartet who now operate between nipaluna/Hobart and naarm/Melbourne. Musically they create a sound that is unique yet familiar, and have a reputation for energetic, spontaneous, and occasionally nonsensical live shows.
On the streets they are known for their C-grade stage banter, B-grade indie-psych-rock, and A-grade friendship. Their typically Tasmanian, heads-screwed-on approach has seen them release a swath of music (including a 14 track extended edition of their debut EP - Natural Press), play some notable sets at festivals like Party in the Paddock, The Great Escape, and Bonzaki, and support mainlanders like The Grogans and Johnny Hunter.
They now turn their attention to bigger fish, with a list of 2025 new year resolutions including - release some music, play some shows, self actualisation, and learn how to make coffee like they do in Melbourne.
In conclusion - “mum reckons we sound like the 80’s, but just the good bits”.
This show is proudly presented by Oyster Botanics, a lutruwita based community record label. We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Owners of the land on which this event is held. It always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
Off the back of their latest release “False Hopes”, Metalcore powerhouse Total Buzzkill bring their high energy live show to Melbourne with a huge night of heavy music at Nighthawks.
